D-backs acquire Rosales from A's; Place Owings on the 60-day DL

The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired INF Adam Rosales from the Oakland A's for RHP Jeferson Mejia. In a corresponding move, the D-backs placed INF Chris Owings on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured right middle finger.

PHOENIX - The Arizona Diamondbacks acquired INF Adam Rosales from the Oakland A's for RHP Jeferson Mejia. In a corresponding move, the D-backs placed INF Chris Owings on the 60-day disabled list with a fractured right middle finger. 
Rosales, 34, has appeared in 160 games at second base, 150 at shortstop, 145 at third, 86 at first and 13 in the outfield over his 10-year Major League career with the Cincinnati Reds (2008-09), A's (2010-13, '17), Texas Rangers (2013-15) and San Diego Padres (2016).
Rosales, who has a .809 OPS vs. left-handed pitching in the last 2 years, is hitting .300 (15-for-50) with runners in scoring position in 2017, including 8 hits over his last 21 opportunities (.381). Overall this season, Rosales is batting .234 (48-for-205) with 11 doubles, 4 home runs and 27 RBI in 71 games with the A's.
The 6-foot-2, 200-pound right-hander posted career highs in 2016 with the Padres in virtually all offensive categories, including slugging percentage (.495), OPS (.814), triples (3), doubles (12), home runs (13), walks (29), RBI (35), runs scored (37) and games played (105). Rosales is a career .228 hitter (346-for-1,518) with 44 home runs and 168 RBI in 606 games.
Mejia, 22, combined to go 1-1 with a 5.90 ERA (19 ER in 29.0 IP) in 21 games with Short-Season A Hillsboro and Single-A Kane County in 2017. He was acquired from the Chicago Cubs on Dec. 9, 2014 with RHP Zack Godley for C Miguel Montero.
Owings, 25, suffered the injury in yesterday's game vs. St. Louis Cardinals. He has a career high in home runs (12) and RBI (51) this season, while hitting .268 (97-for-362) in 97 games with the D-backs.
The D-backs' 40-man roster remains at 40.
