D-backs Recall Domingo Leyba From Triple-A Reno; Optioned Kevin Cron to Reno Following Last Night’s Game; Acquire Ben Lively From the Royals

PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled INF Domingo Leyba (@JuniorL07) from Triple-A Reno. Following last night’s game, the D-backs optioned INF Kevin Cron to Reno. Additionally, Arizona acquired RHP Ben Lively (@BenLively19) from Kansas City for cash considerations and assigned him to Reno. The D-backs’ 40-man roster is now at 40.

 Leyba, 23, will make his Major League debut and wear No. 2. He has hit .289 (77-for-266)/.343 OBP/.515 SLG with 24 doubles, 3 triples, 10 home runs and 42 RBI in 66 games for the Aces this season, including batting .333 (10-for-30) with 4 doubles, 3 RBI and 3 walks in his last 7 games. He has made 33 appearances at shortstop and 32 at second base.

 The 5-foot-11, 160-pound switch-hitter is a lifetime .285 (610-for-2,143)/.343 OBP/.418 SLG hitter with 132 doubles, 21 triples, 37 home runs and 250 RBI in 550 games over 7 seasons in the Tigers’ (2013-14) and D-backs’ (’15-19) organizations, making 329 appearances at shortstop and 210 at second base. He was tabbed by MLB.com as the No. 2 prospect and by Baseball America as the No. 3 prospect in Arizona’s system in 2017, as well as the Best Defensive Infielder in the California League in 2015 by Baseball America.

 Leyba was acquired with LHP Robbie Ray from Detroit on Dec. 5, 2014, for INF Didi Gregorius.

 Lively, 27, has spent the majority of the season with Triple-A Omaha, going 4-1 with 3 saves, a 4.07 ERA (19 ER in 42.0 IP), .252 opponent average, 41 strikeouts and 19 walks in 17 games (3 starts), including a 2-0 with 1 save, a 1.65 ERA (3 ER in 16.1 IP) a .220 opponent average and 16 strikeouts in his last 8 outings since May 25. He made 1 appearance for the Royals on April 28 vs. Angels (3 ER in 1.0 IP).

 A native of Pensacola, Fla., the 6-foot-4, 190-pounder has gone 4-10 with a 4.80 ERA (64 ER in 120.0 IP), 80 strikeouts and 39 walks in 26 games (20 starts) over parts of 3 Major League seasons with the Phillies (2017-18) and Royals (’18-19). He was originally selected by the Reds in the fourth-round of the 2013 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Central Florida.

 Cron, 26, is hitting .213 (10-for-47)/.269 OBP/.553 SLG with 4 doubles, 4 home runs and 11 RBI in 23 games for the D-backs this season.
