D-backs recall Ildemaro Vargas from Triple-A Reno, place Jake Lamb on 10-day injured list

The Arizona Diamondbacks recalled INF Ildemaro Vargas (@ildemaro_tigre) from Triple-A Reno and placed INF Jake Lamb (strained left quadriceps) on the 10-day Injured List, retroactive to April 4.

Vargas, 27, has appeared in 3 games for the D-backs this season, hitting .167 (1-for-6) with 1 double and 1 run scored. Over his last 9 games since Sept. 19, 2018, he has hit .294 AVG (5-for-17)/.333 OBP/.529 SLG with a double, home run and 4 RBI. The switch-hitting infielder has appeared in 29 career games over parts of 3 seasons (2017-19) with Arizona, batting .237 (9-for-38) with 2 doubles, 1 home run, 8 RBI and 7 runs scored, and has made appearances at third base (8 games), second base (5) and shortstop (1).

Vargas was named to the Pacific Coast League mid- and postseason All-Star Teams in 2018 after he hit .311 (167-for-537)/.348 OBP/.445 SLG with 31 doubles, 10 triples, 7 homers, 54 RBI, 30 walks and 78 runs scored in 124 games for the Aces. He ranked among PCL leaders in hits (2nd), triples (T-3rd), total bases (4th, 239) and average (10th). The 6-foot-0, 170-pounder compiled an Aces’ record 35-game hitting streak from June 24-August 11, the PCL’s longest since 1989 and fifth longest all-time.

Lamb, 28, is hitting .267 (4-for-15) with 1 double, 2 RBI and 1 run scored in 5 games for Arizona this season. He suffered the injury in the ninth inning on April 3 @ Padres.
