PHOENIX — The Arizona Diamondbacks reinstated C Alex Avila from the 10-day Injured List (strained left quadriceps) today after optioning INF Ildemaro Vargas to Triple-A Reno following last night’s game.

Avila, 32, is hitting .333 (5-for-15) with 1 double, 2 home runs, 5 RBI, 6 walks and 5 runs scored in 6 games for Arizona this season. He suffered the injury in the ninth inning on April 5 vs. Red Sox.

Vargas, 27, has appeared in 26 games for the D-backs, hitting .200 (11-for-55) with 3 doubles, 1 homer, 4 RBI and 1 stolen base.
