The Los Angeles Dodgers Tuesday recalled infielder/outfielder Breyvic Valera from Triple-A Oklahoma City and optioned right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart to OKC.
Valera, 26, who will make his fourth stint with the big league club this year, has gone 0-for-4 with two walks in five games with the Dodgers this season. In 36 games with Oklahoma City this year, he has posted a .317 (39-for-123)/.393/.537 slashline with 28 runs, five doubles, two triples, six homers and 21 RBI, while also drawing 16 walks against just 13 strikeouts. The speedy utilityman has played all over the field with the OKC Dodgers this season, seeing time at second base (14 games), third base (13 games), shortstop (nine games), in left field (two games) and in center field (two games).
Stewart, 26, made his second start of the season yesterday against the Phillies, allowing four runs (three earned) on five hits and struck out five in 4.0 innings as he did not factor in the decision in the Dodgers' 5-4 comeback victory. In five games (two starts) with Los Angeles this season, Stewart has posted a 4.61 ERA (7 ER/13.2 IP) and has struck out 11 against six walks in 13.2 innings.
