LOS ANGELES -- The Los Angeles Dodgers today selected the contract of right-handed pitcher Tony Gonsolin and optioned catcher Will Smith to Triple-A Oklahoma City. To make room on the 40-man roster, the Dodgers transferred left-handed pitcher Tony Cingrani to the 60-day injured list.

Gonsolin, 25, will make his Major League debut today in the rubber match of the three-game set against the Arizona Diamondbacks. The righty was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the ninth round of the 2016 First Year Player Draft out of St. Mary’s College. The former Gael is a combined 19-11 with a 3.11 ERA (88 ER/255.0 IP) and 296 strikeouts in four minor league seasons. This season he has made eight starts for Triple-A Oklahoma City, going 1-1 with a 2.77 ERA (8 ER/26.0 IP).

Smith, 24, appeared in two games in his second stint with the Dodgers, going 1-for-4 with a homer and three RBI. His pinch-hit walk-off homer helped the Dodgers prevail over the Rockies, 6-3, on Sunday afternoon. It was his second career walk-off homer and his third homer of the season. In eight games with the Dodgers, the former Louisville Cardinal batted .269 (7-for-26) with three homers and six RBI.

Cingrani, 29, was acquired at the trade deadline from the Cincinnati Reds on July 31, 2017 and has gone 1-2 with a 3.86 ERA (18 ER/42.0 IP) and 64 strikeouts in 52 games for Los Angeles. Cingrani has been in the Major Leagues for seven seasons, recording a 12-22 record with a 4.01 ERA (149 ER/334.2 IP) and 366 strikeouts in 216 appearances. The lefty underwent successful left shoulder surgery on June 5 and will miss the remainder of the 2019 season.
