Giants transaction for May 5

May 5th, 2019

The San Francisco Giants announced today that they have claimed right-handed pitcher Andrew Moore off waivers from Tampa Bay. Moore will report to double-A Richmond.

Moore, 24, was currently pitching for triple-A Durham of the International League where he was 0-2 with a 12.98 ERA (25er, 17.1ip) in five games, four starts, for the Bulls.

In 2018, Moore went 9-8 with a 3.85 ERA in 26 games, 24 starts, with 100 strikeouts in 133.1 innings between double-A Arkansas in the Seattle organization and triple-A Durham in the Rays organization. He was acquired by Tampa Bay on May 25, 2018 along with right-handed pitcher Tommy Romero from Seattle in exchange for right-handed pitcher Alex Colomé, outfielder Denard Span and cash considerations.

He made his Major League debut with Seattle in 2017, appearing in 11 games while making nine starts for the Mariners in his only season in the Majors. In those 11 outings, he went 1-5 with a 5.34 ERA (35er, 59.0ip).

Moore was an original second-round pick of the Mariners in the 2015 First-Year Player Draft out of Oregon State University. In 94 games (83 starts) in his minor league career, Moore is 26-21 with a 3.43 ERA with 385 strikeouts and a .249 opponent’s batting average against.

To make room for Moore on the 40-man roster, the Giants designated IF Breyvic Valera for assignment.
