Indians promote LHP Josh Smith from Triple-A Columbus

CLEVELAND, OH - The Cleveland Indians today announced the following transactions relative to the 2019 Major League roster:

Recalled LHP JOSH SMITH (#63) from AAA Columbus.

Placed RHP DAN OTERO (right shoulder inflammation) on the 10-day Injured List, retroactive to May 31.

Smith, 29, begins his second stint at the Major League level, appearing in two games, May 25-27, allowing 1 run over 2.2 innings pitched. He made his Major League debut on May 25 vs. Tampa Bay. Around his three-day tenure with Cleveland, he has spent the entire season to date at Triple-A Columbus, posting a record of 5-1 with 3 saves and a 1.75 ERA in 18 relief appearances (25.2IP, 9H, 5ER, 10BB, 34SO, .106 avg). He has limited left-handed batters to a .100 (3-for-30) average against, an overall mark of .031 (1-for-32) with runners on base and has yet to allow a hit this year with runners in scoring position (0-for-29). The Pleasant Hill, Missouri native was signed by Cleveland to a free agent Minor League contact on December 1 and was a non-roster invitee to Major League camp.

Otero begins his first trip to the Injured List at the Major League level, posting a season ERA of 4.56 (12ER/23.2IP) in 20 relief outings.
