Oakland A's outfielder Jake Smolinski had successful surgery on his right shoulder yesterday. The arthroscopic surgery, which was performed by Dr. Doug Freedberg at the Surg Center at Pima Crossing in Scottsdale, Ariz., entailed a repair to Smolinski's labrum and a bursectomy procedure. Smolinski will be in a sling for the next four weeks.
Smolinski appeared in three games this spring and was 1-for-6 (.167) with a double and RBI. He hit .238 with seven home runs and 27 RBI in 99 games with Oakland last year.
