· David Phelps, RHP, placed on the 10-day disabled list (retroactive to 8/7) with an impingement in his right elbow.
Alonso (#10) will be in uniform and available for tonight's (7:07 p.m. PT) game at the Oakland Athletics.
Alonso, 30, was acquired from Oakland in exchange for minor league outfielder Boog Powell on Sunday (8/6). He was hitting .266 (85x319) with 52 runs, 17 doubles, 22 home runs, 49 RBI, a .369 on-base percentage, .527 slugging mark and a .896 OPS in 100 games with the Athletics. The 2017 American League All Star has set career highs in home runs, on-base percentage, slugging and OPS. Among American League first basemen, he ranks 3rd in on-base percentage (.369) and slugging (.527) while ranking T3rd in home runs (22).
Against right-handed pitching this season, he's hitting .286 (73x255) with 15 doubles, 18 home runs, 40 RBI, a .391 on-base percentage, .557 slugging and .948 OPS. In his career against righties, he's hit .277 (527x1900) with 116 doubles, 2 triples, 51 home runs, 222 RBI with a .769 OPS.
In parts of eight Major League seasons with Cincinnati (2010-11), San Diego (2012-15) and Oakland (2016-17), he has combined to hit .269 (650x2419) with 272 runs, 144 doubles, 2 triples, 61 home runs, 288 RBI and a .339 on-base percentage in 762 games. He was drafted by Cincinnati in the 1st round (7th overall) in the 2008 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Miami (FL).
Phelps, 30, faced one batter in game 1 of the doubleheader on Sunday (8/6) at Kansas City before being removed from the game after experiencing discomfort in his right elbow. He is 1-1 with 3 holds and a 2.57 ERA (2 ER, 7.0 IP) in 7 relief appearances since being acquired by the Mariners. During that span, he has recorded 11 strikeouts and just 1 walk. The 6-foot-2, 198-pound right-hander was acquired on July 20 in a 5-player deal that sent minor leaguer outfielder Brayan Hernandez and minor league right-handed pitchers Pablo Lopez, Brandon Miller and Lukas Schiraldi to Miami. Overall, he is 3-5 with 21 holds and a 3.33 ERA (20 ER, 54.0 IP) with 62 strikeouts and 22 walks in 51 combined appearances with the Mariners and Marlins this season. Among Major League relievers, he ranks T2nd in holds (21) and T15th in innings pitched (54.0).
