Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto and field manager Scott Servais announced today that Nasusel Cabrera has been promoted to interim bullpen coach. He will begin his new duties today in Chicago.
Cabrera joined the Mariners Major League staff in July 2015, working as a batting practice pitcher and assisting with other duties. He was previously the Mariners Latin America pitching coordinator for six seasons (2010-2015). He also served as pitching coach at short-A Everett in 2014, and at rookie Pulaski during the 2009-2013 seasons. (The 2013 Pulaski club was 41-27 and included current Mariners Edwin Diaz and Emilio Pagan on its pitching staff). He was the pitching coach for Seattle's Dominican Club in 2007.
Prior to joining the Seattle organization, Cabrera spent 18 seasons as a pitching coach in the Dominican Republic.
He pitched in the Oakland A's minor league system from 1986 to 1988 prior to beginning his coaching career.
Nasusel resides in Lynnwood, WA, with his wife Milvia, son Nassuel and daughter Nasmil.
Mike Hampton, the Mariners former bullpen coach, tendered his resignation on Sunday, July 9.
