Powell (#8) will be in uniform and available for today's (1:10 p.m. PT) game at the Los Angeles Angels.
Powell, 24, is making his third appearance with the Mariners this season. He hit .179 (5x28) with 5 runs, 2 RBI and 6 walks in 20 games including 5 starts in two previous stints with Seattle in 2017. In his last 10 games with the Rainiers, he's hit .474 (18x38) 10 runs scored, 2 homers and 6 RBI. Overall with AAA Tacoma this season, he has hit .331 (45x136) with 33 runs, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 3 home runs, 20 RBI, 24 walks, 9 stolen bases and a .426 on-base percentage in 41 games. Powell was recalled by Seattle on April 29, made his Major League debut the same day at Cleveland and appeared in 3 games with Seattle before being optioned to Tacoma on May 4. His second stint in the Majors ran from May 16-June 10.
The 5-foot-10, 185-pound outfielder was originally acquired by the Mariners along with RHP Nathan Karns and LHP C.J. Riefenhauser from Tampa Bay for RHP Danny Farquhar, INF Brad Miller and INF Logan Morrison on Nov. 5, 2015. In parts of 6 minor leagues seasons in the Athletics (2012-14), Rays (2015) and Mariners organizations (2016-c), Powell is a career .304 (445x1466) hitter with 242 runs, 51 doubles, 20 triples, 12 home runs, 142 RBI, 72 steals and a .391 on-base percentage in 399 career minor league games. The native of Irvine, Calif., was originally selected by Oakland in the 20th round of the 2012 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of Orange Coast College.
Povse, 23, made 2 relief appearances with the Mariners after being selected from AA Arkansas on June 18. He posted a 10.13 ERA (3 ER, 2.2 IP) with 2 strikeouts and 1 walk. The 6-foot-8, 220-pound right-hander made his Major League debut on June 22 vs. Detroit, retiring the first 2 batters he faced before allowing 3 runs on 4 consecutive hits. He bounced back in his 2nd appearance on June 30 at the Angels, tossing 2.0 scoreless innings. Prior to being selected from AA Arkansas, he was 3-2 with a 3.46 ERA (15 ER, 39.0 IP) with 32 strikeouts and 14 walks in 9 games (8 starts) with the Travelers. Povse opened the season, allowing only 1 run over his first 3 starts, going 3-0 with a 0.48 ERA (1 ER, 18.2 IP). He was on the 7-day disabled list with a right hamstring strain, May 21-June 14.
Povse was acquired by the Mariners along with RHP Rob Whalen from the Atlanta Braves in exchange for OF Alex Jackson a Player to be Named Later (LHP Tyler Pike) on Nov. 28, 2016. He was originally selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 3rd round of the 2014 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Over four seasons in the minor leagues, he is 21-15 with a 3.57 ERA (128 ER, 322.1 IP) in 64 games, 62 starts.
