Mariners recall Shawn O'Malley from AAA Tacoma

Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced the following roster moves prior to today's game vs. the Los Angeles Angels.
 
·         Shawn O'Malley, INF/OF, recalled from AAA Tacoma.
·         Luis Sardiñas, INF, optioned to AAA Tacoma (post-game 5/14)
 
O'Malley (#36) is in the starting lineup playing center field and batting 9th for today's game vs. the Angels.
 
O'Malley, 28, was batting .317 (26x82) with 15 runs, 5 doubles, 1 triple, 1 home run, 13 RBI and 5 stolen bases in 25 games with AAA Tacoma. He appeared at second base (13 G, 11 GS), shortstop (5 GS), left field (5 G, 4 GS), right field (3 GS) and third base (2 GS) with the Rainiers. In 24 games with Seattle in 2015, O'Malley hit .262 (11x42) with 10 runs, 1 double, 1 home run, 7 RBI and 3 stolen bases. O'Malley made his Mariners debut Sept. 2, 2015 at Houston, going 3-for-4 with 2 RBI. A native of Richland, Wash., O'Malley is one of 35 players born or raised in the state of Washington to appear with the Mariners.
 
Sardiñas, 22, hit .154 (4x26) in 12 games (6 starts) with the Mariners after making the Opening Day roster. Sardiñas appeared at second base (3 G, 1 GS), first base (2 G), third base (2 GS), shortstop (2 GS) and left field (1 GS), including making his first career appearance in left field in a start at Texas on April 6. Sardiñas hit his first Major League home run in his Mariners debut on April 5 at Texas.
