Mariners select OF Mac Williamson from Triple-A Tacoma

Mariners place OF Braden Bishop on the 10-day injured list

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

  • Mac Williamson, OF, selected from AAA Tacoma.
  • Braden Bishop, OF, placed on 10-day Injured List with a lacerated spleen.

With today’s roster moves, the Mariners Major League, 40-man roster, is now at 40 players.

Williamson (#12) will be in uniform and available for tonight’s (7:10 pm PT) game against the Houston Astros at T-Mobile Park.

Williamson, 28, was signed by Seattle as a minor league free agent today. He had declined a minor league assignment from the San Francisco Giants on June 1. Williamson had a double, a home run and 7 RBI in 15 games with the Giants while hitting .118 (6-for-51) in 15 games between May 7 and May 24. He started the season at AAA Sacramento where he hit .378 (31x82) with 4 doubles, 9 home runs and 22 RBI in 23 games. He slugged .756 and posted a .459 on-base percentage with the River Cats this season.

Williamson was originally selected by the Giants in the 3rd round of the 2012 Major League First-Year Player Draft. He has appeared in the Majors in parts of 5 seasons (2015-2019), all with San Francisco. In his MLB career, Mac has combined for a .207 (74x357) average with 10 doubles, 1 triple, 14 home runs and 40 RBI in 135 games. 

Bishop, 25, appeared in 2 games with the Mariners after being recalled from AAA Tacoma on June 2. Overall this season, he has appeared in 10 games over three stints with the Mariners (Opening Day - March 23, April 30-May 11 and June 2-5). In 10 games with the Mariners this season, he is 2-for-24 (.083) with 1 run and 2 RBI. In 38 games with Tacoma this season, he batting .293 (48x164) with 24 runs, 13 doubles, 7 home runs, 29 RBI, 21 walks, 2 stolen bases, a .378 on-base percentage and a .500 slugging mark (.878 OPS).

Bishop was the Mariners 3 round selection in the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Washington. The Woodland, CA, native has appeared in parts of 5 minor league seasons in the Mariners organization.
