Twins reinstate Peréz and Astudillo

Option Romero, Stewart and return Duffey

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have reinstated left-handed pitcher Martín Pérez from the Paternity List and is scheduled to start today. Pérez has appeared in eight games (5 starts) for the Twins, going 5-0 with a 2.83 ERA (41.1 IP, 13 ER), 16 walks and 39 strikeouts.

The Twins have also reinstated catcher/infielder Willians Astudillo from the 10-day Injured List. Astudillo, who missed the Twins last 14 games with a left hamstring strain, is hitting .327 (16-for-49) with four doubles, two home runs and seven RBI in 16 games for the Twins.

To make room for Pérez and Astudillo on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned right-handed pitchers Fernando Romero and Kohl Stewart to Triple-A Rochester. Stewart made the start in the second game of yesterday’s doubleheader, allowing three runs on six runs in 6.0 innings, earning the win. Romero appeared in seven games for the Twins this season, posting a 5.63 ERA (8.0 IP, 5 ER) with three walks and eight strikeouts.

Additionally, the Twins have returned right-handed pitcher Tyler Duffey to Triple-A Rochester. Duffey was the 26th man for the doubleheader with Detroit yesterday and pitched 1.0 scoreless inning in game two.
