The New York Mets announced today that they have recalled righthanded pitcher Jacob Rhame from Las Vegas (AAA) of the Pacific Coast League and selected the contract of righthanded pitcher Jamie Callahan from Las Vegas (AAA). Callahan will wear #43 and Rhame will wear #35. Both are on a major league roster for the first time in their careers and will be active for tomorrow's doubleheader at Houston.
Rhame, 24, was acquired from the Dodgers in the Curtis Granderson trade on August 19. In four games for the 51s, Rhame was 0-1 with a 1.50 ERA (one earned run/6.0 innings) with two hits allowed, no walks and 11 strikeouts. In 45 combined games between Oklahoma City (AAA) and Las Vegas, Rhame went 0-3 with a 4.00 ERA (24 earned runs/54.0 innings), two saves and 66 strikeouts.
In 214 career minor league games, all as a reliever, Rhame was 10-19 with a 3.07 ERA (89 earned runs/261.0 innings), 29 saves and 317 strikeouts. Rhame was originally the Dodgers' sixth-round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.
Callahan, 23, was acquired from Boston in the Addison Reed trade on July 31. In nine games for Las Vegas since being acquired, Callahan was 1-1 with one save and a 1.80 ERA (two earned runs/10.0 innings) and 10 strikeouts. In 41 games this season between Portland (AA) of the Eastern League, Pawtucket (AAA) of the International League and Vegas, Callahan went 6-3 with a 2.94 ERA (17 earned runs/52.0 innings), seven saves and 66 strikeouts.
In 151 career minor league games (47 as a starter), Callahan was 27-26 with a 4.71 ERA (201 earned runs/384.0 innings), 17 saves and 373 strikeouts. Callahan was originally Boston's second-round selection in the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.
