Miami Marlins select infielder Jacob Berry with sixth overall selection in 2022 MLB First-Year Player Draft

Berry, a top-ranked switch-hitting prospect by MLB Pipeline, Baseball America and ESPN, was named 2021 Collegiate Baseball National Co-Freshman of the Year and 2022 Collegiate Baseball Second-Team All-American

The Miami Marlins tonight selected INF Jacob Berry with the sixth overall selection in the 2022 First-Year Player Draft. Berry, a switch hitter who played infield and outfield for Louisiana State University for the 2022 season, received 2022 Collegiate Baseball Second-Team All-America honors following a campaign where he hit .370 with 15 home runs and 48 RBI in 53 games. He posted a .464 on-base percentage and .630 slugging percentage, while striking out just 22 times.

Berry, 21, transferred to LSU following a freshman season at the University of Arizona, where he was named 2021 Collegiate Baseball National Co-Freshman of the Year. With the Wildcats, he hit .352 with 41 extra-base hits, including 17 home runs, and 70 RBI in 63 games. Following the 2021 season, he was named 2021 Collegiate Baseball First-Team All-American and 2021 Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-American. Berry was a member of the 2021 USA Baseball Collegiate National Team, where he went 12x31 with four home runs.
