The Washington Nationals recalled left-handed pitcher Matt Grace from Triple-A Syracuse on Thursday and optioned right-handed pitcher Trevor Gott to Triple-A Syracuse. Nationals President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Mike Rizzo made the announcement.
Grace, 28, returns to the Nationals for his fifth Major League assignment of the 2017 season. He has appeared in 6.2 innings across seven relief appearances, allowing three earned runs on six hits. The left-hander has a 3.71 ERA in 38 career Major League games since 2015.
A former eighth-round draft selection in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of UCLA, Grace has posted a 61.1 percent ground-ball rate in his Major League career. Relying on a heavy fastball/slider repertoire, Grace has never allowed a Major League home run, and has allowed just seven in the Minor Leagues since his conversion to relief in 2013.
Gott, 24, appeared in two games during his first Major League stint of the season. He earned his first win as a National in Washington's 10-5 win over Atlanta, June 13, 2017.
