Pirates 2019 parking and traffic information

March 31st, 2019

The Pittsburgh Pirates would like to make fans aware of several PennDOT traffic projects and lane closures around the greater Pittsburgh area that may affect travel to and from PNC Park on some game days. Pirates fans affected are advised to allow for additional time when coming to and leaving PNC Park.

Around the North Shore, fans will notice the 279 South (Parkway North) High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lanes will be open for the Home Opener on Monday, April 1, but will close April 2 and will remain closed through mid-June to prepare for the Parkway North Improvements Project. Other construction impacts include the 9th Street Bridge Closure, North Avenue Bridge Closure, W. Ohio Street Bridge Closure, and General Robinson lane reduction to Route 28.

The I-279 Parkway North Improvement Project includes concrete patching and overlay, ramp repairs, lighting improvements, HOV repairs, and more, from the North Side to the Camp Horne Road exit.

OPENING DAY AT PNC PARK NOTABLE TIMES

• The Roberto Clemente Bridge will be closed to vehicular traffic at 8 a.m. to allow for pedestrian use only.

• All lots around the North Shore will open at 9 a.m. and no daily commuter parking will be permitted.

• All PNC Park gates will open at 11 a.m.

TRAFFIC TIPS

• The Pirates have teamed up with Waze, a community-based traffic and navigation app, to provide you with the most efficient routes to and from the game. Waze is the only GPS program that (thanks to the partnership) has PNC Park parking lots, event day traffic patterns, and street closures incorporated, providing fans with accurate directions to your specific lot with real-time traffic alerts.

Download the free app from Apple’s App store and Google Play and select your specific lot before heading to the game.

• Commuters and fans who can are encouraged to ride public transit on game days. If unable to utilize transit, please see attached map for cash parking locations & prices.

• The Pirates strongly encourage fans, especially families, to arrive as early as possible or find alternate parking in the Golden Triangle in one of the seven Pittsburgh Parking Authority Garages for $6.00 and take advantage of the free “T” service or enjoy the walk across the Clemente Bridge.

• FREE “T” SERVICE is offered by the Port Authority from four Golden Triangle stations, as well as the Allegheny Station outside of Heinz Field, to the North Side Station just outside of PNC Park’s Peoples Home Plate Gate.

• Alternate traffic routes to North I-279 from the North Shore are available via North Avenue or Madison Avenue.

• Each game day, once the Clemente Bridge is open to vehicular traffic (25-40 minutes following the final out, depending on attendance), Federal Street to Fort Duquesne Boulevard will be an available alternate route exiting the North Shore.

• The Pirates strongly encourage all fans to download the “ParkPGH” app or visit m.parkpgh.org to check for alternate downtown parking space availability throughout the season.

• To help keep motorists informed as work progresses, PennDOT has created an email distribution list for I-279 Parkway North traffic advisories and construction updates. Enroll by sending email addresses to [email protected]. Please write “Subscribe – Parkway North” in the subject line.
