Pirates acquire pitcher Nick Burdi from Philadelphia

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for international slot money.

The Pittsburgh Pirates today acquired right-handed pitcher Nick Burdi from the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for international slot money. Burdi was selected by Philadelphia off Minnesota's Triple-A Rochester roster in the Major League Phase of the Rule Five Draft earlier in the day.
The 24-year-old Burdi has produced a 10-6 record, 10 saves, a 3.20 ERA (104.0ip/37er), 142 strikeouts and a .210 batting average against in 80 career relief appearances in the minor leagues since being selected by Minnesota in the second round (46th pick overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.
Burdi went 2-0 with one save, a 0.53 ERA (17.0ip/1er), 20 strikeouts and a .161 batting average against in 14 relief appearances this past season with the Double-A Chattanooga Lookouts before undergoing "Tommy John" surgery.
The 6-foot-5 Burdi entered the 2016 campaign tabbed by Baseball America as Minnesota's 10th-best prospect. Following the conclusion of the 2015 campaign, Burdi pitched for Scottsdale in the Arizona Fall League, where he was named to both the All Prospects team and Rising Stars Game.
