Pirates Charities announced they have teamed-up with Live Like Lou and the Continental Building Co. to assist the Fox Chapel Area Baseball and Softball Association with much-needed renovations of Emmerling Community Park's baseball and softball field.

The Park, located off Route 910 in Indiana Township, is home to more than 300 area youth in the Fox Chapel Area Baseball and Softball Association each season who will now have the opportunity to utilize the soon to be renovated "LiveLikeLou Field," a multi-level playing field.

Renovations to the field at Emmerling Park include a new playing surface, new lights, new protected dugouts and accessible bleachers, new walkways and outfield fencing among other improvements. The improvements will allow for longer playing hours throughout the year as well as a safer environment for the players and fans, in addition to handicap accessible upgrades.

"The Pirates and Pirates Charities are proud to join with Continental Building Co. and our friends at Live Like Lou to help make these improvements to Emmerling Park and provide a safe place for area youth to play baseball and softball," said Pirates President Frank Coonelly.

"Lou Gehrig was an inspiration to sports fans everywhere, both on and off the field. He was our inspiration when our family faced ALS. We hope his memory and this field inspire the community for years to come," said Suzanne Alexander, co-founder of LiveLikeLou.

The $275,000 project is made possible by contributions from Pirates Charities, LiveLikeLou, the Continental Building Co., Indiana Township, donations from residents and others.

A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on Tuesday, September 26 at 11 a.m., to officially begin the renovations that are expected to be complete by Spring 2018. The Fox Chapel Area has envisioned new, quality fields for kids in the community to play on for years and now with the help of these local organizations and families, the dream will become a reality.

Those scheduled to attend the groundbreaking include Pirates and Pirates Charities Chairman Bob Nutting, Pirates and Pirates Charities President Frank Coonelly, LiveLikeLou co-founder Suzanne Alexander, Continental Building Co. President Todd Alexander, as well as Indiana Township officials and board members of Fox Chapel Area Baseball and Softball Association.
