OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s placed right-handed pitcher Burch Smith on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 4/4) with a strained right groin and left-handed pitcher Reymin Guduan on the 10-day IL with a sprained left thumb. To fill their spots on the roster, the A’s recalled infielder/outfielder Seth Brown and right-handed pitcher Jordan Weems from their alternate site.
Smith allowed one run in 3.0 innings over two games for the A’s. He was 2-0 with one save and a 2.25 ERA (3 er in 12.0 ip) in six games with Oakland in 2020 before being placed on the injured list with a strained right forearm.
Guduan appeared in three games for the A’s, allowing eight runs over 2.2 innings pitched before injuring his thumb last night against the Dodgers. He allowed just one run over 9.1 innings with five strikeouts in nine Spring Training appearances for Oakland.
Brown went 7-for-31 (.226) with three home runs and seven RBI in 23 games this spring for the A’s. He was 0-for-5 in seven appearances in 2020.
Weems earned one save, allowed three runs and struck out four batters over 6.0 innings in six outings for the A’s this spring. In 2020, he compiled a 3.21 ERA (5 er in 14.0 ip) with 18 strikeouts and seven walks in nine games with Oakland.
