A’s release RHP Marco Estrada

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s have released right-handed pitcher Marco Estrada, the club announced today.

Estrada was signed by the A’s as a free agent Jan. 25 and began the season as the A’s number two starter. He was 0-2 with a 6.85 ERA and .242 opponents batting average in five starts when he was placed on the 10-day injured list April 17 with a lumbar strain. The 36-year-old right-hander began a rehab assignment on July 25 and went 0-1 with an 8.44 ERA and .283 opponents batting average in five starts, including one with the A’s Gold team in the Arizona Rookie League, three with Single-A Stockton and one with Triple-A Las Vegas.

The A’s now have one open spot on the 40-man roster.
