Astros add RHP J.P. France to the 40-man roster

HOUSTON, TX — The Houston Astros have added right-handed pitcher J.P. France to their 40-man roster today. The deadline to protect eligible minor league players from the 2022 Rule 5 Draft is today at 5 p.m. CT.

France, 27, spent his entire season with Triple A Sugar Land, appearing in 34 games and making 15 starts. He posted a 3-4 record with a 3.90 ERA (48ER/110.2IP) with three saves, 136 strikeouts, a .233 opponent batting average and a 1.36 WHIP. His 136 strikeouts in 110.2 inning pitched ranked second in the Pacific Coast League.

For his minor league career, he's notched an 18-16 record with a 3.80 ERA (145ER/343IP) with 421 strikeouts, a .227 opponent batting average and a 1.32 WHIP in 94 games (53 starts). France has posted an 11.0 SO/9IP ratio in his minor league career. He was drafted by the Astros in the 14th round of the 2018 First-Year Player MLB Draft.

Following today’s transaction, the Astros have 36 players on their 40-man roster.
