Chicago White Sox RBI wins Junior Baseball Division Championship at the 2019 RBI World Series

Chicago earns third championship since 2016 and second in the Junior Division

Chicago White Sox RBI has won the Junior Baseball Division Championship at the 2019 Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities (RBI) World Series after defeating Miami Marlins RBI. Following their 3-0 victory at a renovated Holman Field at the Jackie Robinson Training Complex – the permanent home of the RBI World Series – in Vero Beach, Fla., Chicago finished the tournament with a 4-2 record. This is Chicago’s third title since 2016, having won the Junior and Senior Division Championships in 2016 and 2018, respectively.

Chicago starting pitcher Yashion Boswell was named the Most Valuable Player of the Junior Division Championship Game. Having posted an impressive 2.10 earned run average during pool play and playoff games, the righty limited Miami to just four hits over seven shutout innings. The Lynwood, Ill., native also fanned three during his clutch performance. A box score accompanies this release.

Crawford (Seattle Mariners), Dominic Smith (New York Mets), Josh Harrison (Detroit Tigers), Hector Santiago (New York Mets), Touki Touissant (Atlanta Braves), Nomar Mazara (Texas Rangers), Steven Souza, Jr. (Arizona Diamondbacks) and Chris Iannetta (Colorado Rockies). Jimenez (Dominican Republic RBI – ’12), Mazara (Dominican Republic RBI – ‘11), Crawford (Venice Boys & Girls Club RBI – ‘09) and Smith (Venice Boys & Girls Club RBI – ‘09) have each played in the RBI World Series.

The RBI program, which has served approximately 2 million young people since its inception, is administered by Major League Baseball and designed to give young people from underserved and diverse communities the opportunity to play baseball and softball, while also encouraging academic achievement and success and teaching the value of teamwork and other important life lessons.
