Colorado Rockies recall left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland from Triple-A Albuquerque

Infielder Pat Valaika optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque

DENVER – The Colorado Rockies announced today that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Kyle Freeland from Triple-A Albuquerque and have optioned infielder Pat Valaika to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Freeland, 26, was optioned to Albuquerque on May 31 after going 2-6 with a 7.13 ERA (59.1 IP, 47 ER) in 12 starts to begin the season … in six starts with the Isotopes, went 0-4 with a 8.80 ERA (29.2 IP, 29 ER), 16 walks and 28 strikeouts … finished fourth in National League Cy Young voting in 2018 after going 17-7 with a 2.85 ERA (202.1 IP, 64 ER), becoming the second Rockies pitcher to finish in the top five in Cy Young Award voting … across parts of three seasons with the Rockies, the Denver native has gone 30-24 with a 3.92 ERA (417.2 IP, 182 ER) with 158 walks and 329 strikeouts in 73 starts and five relief appearances.

Valaika, 26, has batted .128 (6-for-47) with six runs scored, one double, one home run, two RBI, six walks and 21 strikeouts in 26 games across four stints with the Rockies this season … appeared in nine games since his last recall on June 18 and batted .222 (4-for-18) with one home run and two RBI … in 44 games with Albuquerque, has batted .339 (63-for-186) with 12 doubles, a career-high 16 home runs and 39 RBI … since making his Major League debut with the Rockies in 2016, has batted .208 (77-for-370) with 45 runs, 18 doubles, 17 home runs, 49 RBI and 22 walks across 217 career games.

The Rockies currently have a full 40-man roster.
