CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today activated catcher Willson Contreras and left-handed pitcher Derek Holland off of the 10-day injured list. Chicago’s active roster now stands at 35 players.

Both Contreras, who will make the start at catcher, and Holland will be available for the Cubs tonight when they conclude their two-game series against the Seattle Mariners at Wrigley Field.

Contreras, 27, was placed on the injured list on August 4 with a right hamstring strain and played in three games with Triple-A Iowa as part of his return, going 1-for-7 (.143) with a walk and three runs scored. He is batting .275 (81-for-295) with 15 doubles, 19 homers and 57 RBI in 87 games with the Cubs this year. Contreras was the starting catcher for the National League at this year’s All-Star Game.

Holland, 32, was placed on the injured list on August 25 (retroactive to August 24) with a left wrist contusion and made a rehab appearance on Sunday with Single-A South Bend as part of his return (1.2 IP, 2 H, 2 ER, 2 SO, HR). He has combined to go 2-4 with a 5.74 ERA (50 ER/78.1 IP) in 43 appearances, all but seven in relief, with the San Francisco Giants and the Cubs this season. Holland was acquired by the Cubs from the Giants on July 26 and has posted a 4.66 ERA (5 ER/9.2 IP) in 12 relief outings with Chicago.
