Cubs place LHP Derek Holland on 10-day IL; recall INF David Bote from Triple-A Iowa

CHICAGO – The Chicago Cubs today placed left-handed pitcher Derek Holland on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to August 24) with a left wrist contusion and recalled infielder David Bote from Triple-A Iowa. Bote will be available for the Cubs this afternoon when they conclude their three-game series against the Washington Nationals at Wrigley Field.

Bote, 26, is batting .257 (69-for-268) with 16 doubles, 10 home runs and 40 RBI in 106 games with the Cubs this year. He had spent the entire season at the big league level before being optioned to Iowa last Monday, where he went 1-for-10 with a run scored in three games. Bote made his major league debut with the Cubs last year and is hitting .250 (113-for-452) with 25 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs and 73 RBI with a .759 OPS in 180 career games.

Holland, 32, has combined to go 2-4 with a 5.74 ERA (50 ER/78.1 IP) in 43 appearances, all but seven in relief, with the San Francisco Giants and the Cubs this season. He was acquired by the Cubs from the Giants on July 26 and has posted a 4.66 ERA (5 ER/9.2 IP) in 12 relief outings with Chicago.
