Dodgers activate Mookie Betts, recall Darien Núñez

LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles Dodgers activated outfielder Mookie Betts from the 10-day injured list, recalled left-handed pitcher Darien Núñez and optioned infielder Gavin Lux and outfielder/infielder Matt Beaty to Triple-A Oklahoma City.

Betts, 28, returns from the injured list after missing the last 16 games with right hip inflammation. In 87 games with the Dodgers, the five-time All-Star is hitting .277 (93-for-336) with 17 homers and 44 RBI. He is in his eighth Major League season and is a .299 hitter with 172 homers and 553 RBI in 936 career games. He was originally acquired by the Dodgers on February 10, 2020 along with David Price from the Boston Red Sox in exchange for outfielder Alex Verdugo and minor league Connor Wong and Jeter Downs.

Núñez, 28, returns for his fourth stint with the club and is 0-1 with a 8.22 ERA (7 ER/7.2 IP) in six games (one start) for the Dodgers this season. He has split the season between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City, going a combined 5-0 with a 2.29 ERA (10 ER/39.1 IP) and 60 strikeouts. In 66 minor league contests, he is 8-2 with a 2.25 ERA (27 ER/108.0 IP) and 172 strikeouts. He was originally signed by the Dodgers as a minor league free agent on April 16, 2018.

Lux, 23, has played in 85 games, hitting .221 with six homers and 37 RBI this season. In parts of three seasons with the Dodgers, the Kenosha, WI native is batting .217 with 11 homers and 54 RBI. The 2019 Baseball America Minor League Player of the Year had a banner campaign in his last minor league campaign, hitting .347 with 26 homers and 76 RBI in 113 games split between Double-A Tulsa and Triple-A Oklahoma City. He was originally drafted in the 2016 First Year Player Draft out Indian Trail High School with the 20th overall pick in the draft.

Beaty, 28, has appeared in 105 games for the Dodgers, batting .262 (49-for-187) with five homers and 34 RBI. In three seasons with the Dodgers, he has hit .259 (126-for-486) with 24 doubles, 16 homers and 85 RBI. He was originally drafted by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2015 First Year Player Draft out of Belmont University.
