Mariners select LHP Taylor Guilbeau from AAA Tacoma

Seattle places RHP Brandon Brennan on the 10-day injured list

DETROIT, Mich. -- Seattle Mariners Executive Vice President & General Manager of Baseball Operations Jerry Dipoto announced today the following roster moves:

Taylor Guilbeau, LHP, selected from AAA Tacoma.

Brandon Brennan, RHP, placed on the 10-day Injured List with right shoulder inflammation (retroactive to 8/14).

Guilbeau (#45) will be in uniform and available for today’s (1:10 pm ET/10:10 am PT) game at the Detroit Tigers.

Seattle’s Major League, 40-man, roster is now at 37 players.

Guilbeau, 26, will be making his Major League debut with his first appearance. He was acquired by the Mariners, along with minor leaguers Aaron Fletcher (lhp) and Elvis Alvarado (rhp), in exchange for Hunter Strickland (rhp) and Roenis Elías (lhp) on July 31, 2019. Guilbeau was assigned to Triple-A Tacoma, where he posted a 1.80 ERA (1 ER, 5.0 IP) with 5 strikeouts and 2 walks in 5 relief appearances with the Rainiers. He is ranked as the No. 22 prospect in the Mariners organization by MLB.com. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound left-hander began the season with Double-A Harrisburg in the Nationals organization, going 1-2 with a 2.31 ERA (9 ER, 35.0 IP) with 10 walks and 44 strikeouts over 27 games. He was promoted to Triple-A Fresno on July 11, where he was 2-0 with a 5.19 ERA (5 ER, 8.2 IP) with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts in 7 outings. Overall this season, he is 3-2 with 2.77 ERA (15 ER, 48.2 IP) with 55 strikeouts and 17 walks in 39 relief appearances.

Guilbeau originally signed with the Nationals after being drafted in the 10th round of the 2015 MLB First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Alabama. He has spent 5 minor league seasons with the Nationals (2015-19) and Mariners (2019-c), going 16-12 with a 4.02 ERA (155 ER, 347.0 IP) with 305 strikeouts and 95 walks in 131 career games (39 starts).

Brennan, 28, appeared in 3 games with the Mariners after being reinstated from the 10-day injured list on Aug. 6. In his last 3 appearances, he tossed 2.0 innings and allowed 1 run on 1 hit (home run) with 1 walk and 1 strikeout. He left the game on Aug. 13 at Detroit after throwing only 2 pitches. In 33 appearances with the Mariners this season, he is 2-6 with a 5.50 ERA (22 ER, 36.0 IP) with 21 walks and 36 strikeouts. He made his MLB debut March 21 vs. Oakland in Tokyo, did not allow an earned run in his first 8 Major League games, and notched his first Big League win on April 11 at Kansas City.

Brennan was selected by Seattle in the Major League portion of the Rule 5 Draft on Dec. 13, 2018. He was originally selected by Chicago-AL in the 4th round of the 2012 MLB Draft. He spent 7 years (2012-2018) in the White Sox minor league system and was a combined 25-34 with a 4.64 ERA (249 ER, 482.2 IP) with 16 saves in 172 games (64 starts). Brennan signed with Colorado as a minor league free agent on Nov. 13, 2018 but was selected by Seattle prior to joining the Rockies.
