OF Jake Meyers recalled from Triple-A Sugar Land

HOUSTON, TX – Effective today, the Astros have recalled outfielder Jake Meyers from Triple A Sugar Land, General Manager James Click announced. Additionally, Yainer Diaz was optioned to Sugar Land and then subsequently placed on the Major League Taxi Squad.

Since being optioned to Sugar Land on Aug. 30, Meyers has hit .337 (31x92) in 24 games for the Space Cowboys with five doubles, four home runs and 14 RBI with 19 walks. In addition to the .337 batting average, he posted a .451 on-base percentage and a .544 slugging percentage (.994 OPS). More recently, he went 13x26 (.500) in his last seven games with three home runs, six RBI and eight walks (.618 OBP/.885 SLG). Prior to being optioned, Meyers hit .209 in 47 games for the Astros big club this season with a home run and 14 RBI. He played his first game of the season for the Astros on June 24, spending the first several weeks of the 2022 recovering from offseason left shoulder surgery.

Diaz appeared in six games for the Astros, which included two starts at DH. He notched his first Major League hit as a pinch-hitter on Sept. 20 at TB (was 1x8 overall). In the minor leagues this season, in 105 combined games at Double A Corpus Christi and Sugar Land, Diaz hit .306 with 25 home runs with 96 RBI (.898 OPS).
