On Saturday, September 7, the Pirates, Pirates Charities and Allegheny Health Network will host a special Cancer Support Night at PNC Park in partnership with the Arnie and Winnie Palmer Foundation. The night will include a special superheroes event with pediatric cancer patients and their families as the young heroes will be welcomed early with a VIP party in the Press Conference Room and then led to the field for a very unique onfield ceremony.

The superhero ceremony (beginning approximately at 6:45 p.m.) will be complete with a caping event where each pediatric cancer guest will be given their very own Pirates superhero cape by a member of the team to assist them in their fight.Following the caping ceremony, pediatric cancer guests, Pirates players and coaches will take part in a special “Arnie’s March” along the third base line. The march is a signature Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation event to raise funds and awareness in the fight against childhood cancer. The superheroes and their families will then watch the game from a Pirates World Series Suites, courtesy of PNC Bank, where they will enjoy a dinner fit for a superhero.

Throughout the night, fans will have the opportunity to support a number of organizations that assist individuals affected by cancer and their loved ones.

The night will begin with a special resource fair on Federal Street, beginning at 5:30 p.m., as many local organizations will be on-hand to educate fans and create an awareness of the various services provided. In addition, fans will have the chance to sign the Pirates Stand Up to Cancer (SU2C) banner as well as purchase SU2C merchandise.

Also, on Federal Street, Allegheny Health Network will have a giant bell for cancer survivors to ring and will be creating free personalized “Remission Accomplished” tees with each survivor’s name and year they entered remission, as supplies last.

Once inside the ballpark, fans can make their way to the Crow’s Nest area where Pirates Charities and the Players’ Wives organization will host a special raffle that will include baskets of specific player’s favorite things put together by their wives as well as other Pirates merchandise and autographed items. All proceeds from the baskets raffle will benefit the Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute and the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation.

All fans will receive a SU2C placard upon entering PNC Park to personalize with the name of someone they know affected by cancer as well as a mini-cowbell (while supplies last), courtesy of Allegheny Health Network. Fans will be asked to display their placards and join the Pirates and Cardinals for a moment of silence during the 7th inning stretch as we Stand Up to Cancer. In addition, following the moment of silence, fans will be encouraged to ring their mini-cowbells in support of cancer survivors.

The Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation will be on-hand throughout the evening in the Crow’s Nest area with donation opportunities that include special auction items, a chance to take a picture with Palmer’s 1975 Ryder’s Cup Trophy and Captain’s Blazer, and more. The Foundation joins Pirates Charities in fighting childhood cancer in honor of what would have been Arnold Palmer’s 90th birthday on September 10.

In addition to the aforementioned donation opportunities happening around PNC Park, proceeds from the night’s 50/50 raffle, presented by Rivers Casino, will benefit Allegheny Health Network Cancer Institute and the Arnold and Winnie Palmer Foundation.
