August 27th, 2020

The Pittsburgh Pirates today claimed outfielder Anthony Alford off waivers from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 26-year-old Alford was a member of Toronto’s Opening Day roster this season and went 3-for-16 with a home run and three RBI in 13 games before being designated for assignment on August 20.

Alford has appeared in 46 games for the Blue Jays over the last four seasons (2017-20) since being selected by Toronto in the third round (112th pick overall) of the 2012 First-Year Player Draft.

Alford was rated as Toronto’s third-best prospect by Baseball America entering the 2018 campaign while also being tabbed as the No. 47 prospect overall entering the 2018 season by MLBPipeline.
