Rangers recall INF Anderson Tejeda, place OF Danny Santana on 10-day injured list

Tejeda will be available for today’s series finale in San Francisco, seeking his Major League debut

August 2nd, 2020

San Francisco, Calif. — The Texas Rangers announced prior to today’s game that the club has recalled infielder Anderson Tejeda (pronounced tuh-HAY-duh) from the Alternate Training Site. Tejeda (#71) will be in uniform for today’s series finale in San Francisco, seeking his Major League debut.

To make room on the active 30-man roster for Tejeda, the club has placed outfielder Danny Santana on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to July 30, with a right forearm strain.

Tejeda, 22, went 4-for-7 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI in limited action during the club’s Summer Camp contests. He was optioned to the Alternate Training Site on July 19 and has been working out with that group prior to the Rangers’ current road trip. Prior to the shut down of Spring Training in March, Tejeda had gone 7-for-14 with a home run and 6 RBI over 9 Cactus League games. The home run came off the Giants’ Trevor Gott on March 3 in Scottsdale.

Tejeda was already with the Rangers in San Francisco as part of the team’s three-man traveling taxi squad, an allowance made by Major League Baseball for the 2020 season. He has never played above the High-A level, as he spent the 2018-19 campaigns with Down East in the Carolina League. His last regular season game came with the Wood Ducks on May 29, 2019 vs. Salem, as he spent the duration of last year on the injured list with a left shoulder injury.

Santana started each of the Rangers’ first 4 games, going 1-for-17, but has not played since Tuesday vs. Arizona. The first date he is eligible to return is August 9.

With today’s moves, the Rangers remain at the limit of 40 players on their Major League roster.

Per 2020 MLB regulations, the active roster must be reduced from 30 to 28 players by 11:00 a.m. CT on August 6, and the active roster must be reduced from 28 to 26 players by 11:00 a.m. CT on August 20.
