November 5th, 2021

BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today claimed outfielder Tim Locastro off waivers from the New York Yankees. The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is now at 35.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Locastro, 29, has appeared in 209 major league games with the Los Angeles Dodgers (2017-18), Arizona Diamondbacks (2019-21), and Yankees (2021). A right-handed hitter, he has batted .231 (100-for-432) with five home runs, a .662 OPS, and 31 stolen bases in 34 attempts. Each of his 97 starts has come in the outfield, including 41 in center field, 39 in left field, and 17 in right field.

A native of Auburn, NY, Locastro was selected by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 13th round of the 2013 June Draft out of Ithaca College. After leading the majors in 2019 with a sprint speed of 30.8 feet per second, he once again led MLB in 2020 (30.7) and tied for the lead in 2021 (30.7), according to Statcast. He was successful in each of his first 29 stolen base attempts, the longest known streak to begin a career in major league history.
