Red Sox claim left-handed pitcher Stephen Gonsalves off waivers from New York Mets

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today claimed left-handed pitcher Stephen Gonsalves off waivers from the New York Mets and optioned him to the club’s Alternate Training Site at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket, RI.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

The Red Sox’ 40-man roster is at 38. Their Club Player Pool is at 60.

Gonsalves, 26, has appeared in seven major league games (four starts), all in 2018 with the Minnesota Twins. A California native, he was selected by the Twins in the fourth round of the 2013 June Draft out of Cathedral Catholic High School in San Diego. In his minor league career, the left-hander is 53-22 with a 2.50 ERA (170 ER/612.0 IP) and a .199 opponent batting average in 121 appearances (114 starts). At the Triple-A level, Gonsalves is 10-6 with a 3.46 ERA (48 ER/125.0 IP) in 25 games (23 starts).
