Red Sox appoint catcher Connor Wong as 27th man for today's doubleheader

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today appointed catcher Connor Wong as the club’s 27th man for today’s doubleheader against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park. Per Major League Baseball Rules, both teams are permitted to add an extra player for today’s games.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Wong, 25, made his major league debut this season and appeared in four games with Boston, going 3-for-11 (.273) and throwing out the only runner who attempted to steal against him. In 26 games with Worcester this season, he has hit .188 (19-for-101) with two home runs, making 24 starts at catcher, one at second base, and one at designated hitter. Wong is ranked by MLB.com as the Red Sox’ No. 16 prospect.
