Boston Options Right-Handed Pitcher Robert Stock

September 6th, 2020

BOSTON, MA — The Boston Red Sox today recalled left-handed pitcher Matt Hall from their Alternate Training Site. To make room on the active roster, the club optioned right-handed pitcher Robert Stock to the Alternate Training Site following last night’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Hall, 27, made the Red Sox’ Opening Day roster and appeared in two games with the club before being optioned after the August 5 game against the Tampa Bay Rays. The left-hander started and threw 2.2 innings in Boston’s game against the New York Mets on July 28, then threw 2.0 innings of relief on August 2 at Yankee Stadium. Hall was acquired by the Red Sox from the Detroit Tigers on January 17, 2020, in exchange for minor league catcher Jhon Nuñez. He has made 23 career appearances (one start) between the Tigers (2018-19) and Red Sox (2020).

Stock, 30, has made seven appearances over two stints with the Red Sox this season, going 0-1 with a 5.87 ERA (5 ER/7.2 IP) and nine strikeouts. The right-hander made his major league debut in 2018 and posted a 2.50 ERA (11 ER/39.2 IP) in 32 appearances—all in relief—with San Diego. He made the Padres’ 2019 Opening Day roster but spent most of the season with Triple-A El Paso, where he averaged 13.35 strikeouts per nine innings in 27 outings. Stock was claimed by Boston off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies on July 26, 2020.
