BOSTON, MA—The Boston Red Sox today reinstated right-handed pitcher Nathan Eovaldi from the 10-day injured list. To make room for Eovaldi on the active roster, the club optioned left-handed pitcher Matt Hall to the Alternate Training Site following last night’s game.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

The Red Sox have 28 players on their active roster, 40 on their 40-man roster, and 60 in their Club Player Pool.

Eovaldi, 30, was placed on the 10-day injured list on August 29 (retroactive to August 26) due to a right calf strain. He made his first career Opening Day start this season, his second full season in the Red Sox organization. The right-hander has made six starts in 2020, going 2-2 with a 4.98 ERA (19 ER/34.1 IP) and tossing at least 5.0 innings in each. In his most recent start on August 20 at Camden Yards, Eovaldi limited the Orioles to one run on five hits and one walk over a season-high 7.0 innings, striking out six. He is 48-56 with a 4.32 ERA (457 ER/952.0 IP) in 185 career outings (166 starts) between the Dodgers (2011-12), Marlins (2012-14), Yankees (2015-16), Rays (2018), and Red Sox (2018-20).

Hall, 27, tossed 2.1 innings in relief against the Rays last night, allowing 4 runs and receiving the loss. The left-hander made the Red Sox’ Opening Day roster and has appeared in four games with the club, including one as a starter. Acquired from the Detroit Tigers on January 17, 2020, the left-hander has allowed 18 runs in 8.2 innings this season. He has made 25 career appearances (one start) between the Tigers (2018-19) and Red Sox (2020), going 0-4 with an 11.48 ERA (51 ER/40.0 IP).RE
