Red Sox reinstate right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta from COVID-19 related injured list

Boston options right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold to Triple-A Worcester

BOSTON, MA – The Boston Red Sox today reinstated right-handed pitcher Nick Pivetta from the COVID-19 Related Injured List. To make room on the active major league roster, the Red Sox optioned right-handed pitcher Connor Seabold to the Triple-A Worcester roster following last night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

Chief Baseball Officer Chaim Bloom made the announcement.

Pivetta, 28, was placed on the COVID-19 Related Injured List on September 5. The right-hander has made 26 starts for the Red Sox this season, going 9-7 with a 4.67 ERA (70 ER/135.0 IP) and 151 strikeouts. In five of his starts, he threw at least 5.0 innings, allowed two hits or fewer, and surrendered zero runs.

Seabold, 25, made his major league debut last night, allowing two runs in 3.0 innings. In eight starts with Worcester this season, he has gone 2-3 with a 3.67 ERA (17 ER/41.2 IP), 44 strikeouts, 13 walks, a 1.06 WHIP, and a .201 opponent batting average.
