Twins recall Lewis Thorpe from Triple-A Rochester

Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have recalled left-handed pitcher Lewis Thorpe from Triple-A Rochester and have optioned left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer to Rochester.

Thorpe, who will be in his third stint with the Twins, recently appeared in two games for the Red Wings earlier this month, posting a 1.00 ERA (9.0 IP, 1 ER) with three hits allowed, no walks and 11 strikeouts. The left-hander has appeared in four games (1 start) for the Twins this season, going 1-1 with a 3.18 ERA (11.1 IP, 4 ER), two walks and 10 strikeouts.

To make room for Thorpe on the 25-man roster, the Twins have optioned Devin Smeltzer to Triple-A Rochester. In seven games (4 starts) for the Twins this season, Smeltzer went 1-2 with a 4.00 ERA (36.0 IP, 16 ER), nine walks and 27 strikeouts. He earned his first career save last night, allowing three runs on seven hits in 4.0 innings pitched against the Rangers in Texas.
