Twins place Max Kepler on 10-day injured list

Matt Wallner's contract selected from Triple-A St. Paul

CLEVELAND, OH – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed outfielder Max Kepler on the 10-day Injured List with a right wrist sprain (retroactive to September 14).

Kepler has played in 115 games this season, hitting .227 (88-for-388) with 18 doubles, one triple, nine home runs, 43 RBI, 54 runs scored, 49 walks and a .318 on-base percentage.

To replace Kepler on the 28-man roster, the Twins have selected the contract of outfielder Matt Wallner from Triple-A St. Paul. Wallner, 24, has played in 50 games for the Saints this season, hitting .247 (47-for-190) with 17 doubles, three triples, six home runs, 31 RBI, 29 runs scored, a .376 on-base percentage and an .839 OPS. The 6-foot-5, 220-pound outfielder was promoted to St. Paul in mid-July and has hit .277 (127-for-458) with 32 doubles, four triples, 27 home runs, 95 RBI, 90 runs scored, a .412 on-base percentage a .542 slugging percentage and a .953 OPS in 128 games between St. Paul and Double-A Wichita this season.

The Forest Lake, Minnesota native was selected by the Twins in the first round (39th overall) of the 2019 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Southern Mississippi and played in the 2022 SiriusXM Futures Game at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles, starting in rightfield and hitting a two-run home run in the American League’s 6-4 win. He will be in uniform for today’s doubleheader in Cleveland and wear uniform number 38.

To make room on the 40-man roster, the Twins have designated right-handed pitcher Drew Strotman for release or assignment.

Additionally, the Twins have recalled right-handed pitcher Louie Varland from Triple-A St. Paul to serve as the club’s 29th man for today’s doubleheader in Cleveland. He will start game one at Progressive Field, starting at 1:10 pm (ET).
