CHICAGO, IL – The Minnesota Twins announced today that they have placed left-handed pitcher Devin Smeltzer on the 10-day Injured List with left elbow inflammation.

Smeltzer’s lone appearance this season came in relief on April 24 vs. Pittsburgh, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing one unearned run on one hit, with one walk and three strikeouts.

To replace Smeltzer on the 26-man roster, the Twins have recalled right-handed pitcher Shaun Anderson from Triple-A St. Paul. Anderson, 26, was acquired in a trade with the San Francisco Giants on February 4. He appeared in 18 games for the Giants last season, posting a 3.52 ERA (15.1 IP, 6 ER) with 12 walks, 18 strikeouts, a .182 opponent batting average and a 1.43 WHIP.

The Coral Springs, Florida native was originally drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the third round of the 2016 First-Year Player Draft out of the University of Florida. He made his major league debut on May 15, 2019 for San Francisco and went 3-5 with a 5.17 ERA (111.1 IP, 64 ER), 50 walks and 88 strikeouts in 46 games across two seasons with the Giants.

Anderson will be in uniform tonight in Chicago and will wear number 41.
