What's happening at Phillies-Padres series, May 17-19
Military Recognition by Aaron & Austin Nola, SEPTA Transit Police Officer Honored as Hometown Hero, and 8,000+ Students to Attend Weather Education Day!
On Tuesday, May 17, the Philadelphia Phillies return to host the San Diego Padres for a three-game series at Citizens Bank Park. Here’s a look at all the promotions and Phillies fun surrounding the games. Plus, see below for other need-to-know information including safety guidelines, cashless parking details, ballpark entry permitted items and more.
1. On Tuesday, May 17, Phillies pitcher Aaron Nola and his brother, Padres catcher Austin Nola, will team up with members of the Yuengling family to recognize TAPS and Team Red, White & Blue during a special on-field presentation before the 6:45 p.m. game.
During the game, three Rothman Hometown Heroes will be recognized on-field. SEPTA Transit Police Officer Ervis Onuzi, who was injured recently in the line of duty after he put himself in harm’s way to save another officer’s life, will have the honor of changing a base at the end of the third inning, and SGT Kamal Simmonds and SSG Jennifer Simmonds will also change a base at the end of the sixth inning.
2. The Phillies annual Youth Baseball and Softball Celebration will take place at Citizens Bank Park on Wednesday, May 18, during that night’s 6:45 p.m. game. The evening features a Theme Night ticket offer with an $8 discount in select locations. Plus, teams are encouraged to wear their uniforms for the chance to be shown on PhanaVision and some athletes will have the honor of dancing with the Phanatic in the seventh inning.
- Also happening is the 5th annual Phillies All-Star Students Night. The Phillies will recognize 10 students nominated by their teachers, who are going above and beyond both inside and outside of the classroom, as All-Star Students.
3. Over 8,000 students and teachers are coming to the ballpark for Citizens Weather Education Day presented by the First Alert team at NBC10 and Telemundo62 on Thursday, May 19, at the 1:05 p.m. Citizens Businessperson’s Special game. Lots of fun for Weather Education Day! Take photos with the NBC10 Storm Ranger on Citizens Bank Way, plus be a meteorologist at the NBC10 Green Screen and participate in weather-related activities at the First Base Plaza. Also, meteorologist Glenn “Hurricane” Schwartz, who will be retiring on May 27, will throw the ceremonial first pitch.
4. Bid on once-in-a-lifetime player and alumni experiences, memorabilia and more in the 10th Anniversary Phantastic Auction. This online charity event takes place on Phillies.com/phantasticauction until Friday, May 27. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the ALS Association of Greater Philadelphia, as well as Phillies Charities, Inc.
Other need-to-know information:
- Safety guidelines: In accordance with the City’s recently updated safety guidelines, fans are strongly encouraged to wear masks in indoor spaces at the ballpark including the Diamond Club, retail stores, elevators and restrooms. Fans are reminded to bring their own mask if they will be at one of the previously mentioned areas at Citizens Bank Park.
- Parking lots: Parking for Phillies games is cashless. Methods of payment include credit/debit cards and mobile payment (Apple Pay and Google Pay). To expedite entry, pre-paid parking passes may also be purchased prior to the game. Tailgating lots (M, N & O) will open 5 hours prior to first pitch and non-tailgating lots will open 3 hours prior.
- Access Tickets & More: Use the free MLB Ballpark app as your guide to Citizens Bank Park to access tickets, forward to friends, use the interactive concourse maps and enjoy games.
- Gate Openings: All gates open 5:35 p.m.
- To expedite entry: Guests are prohibited from bringing bags, including backpacks, into the ballpark. Only clutch purses (12”x 12” x 1”), fanny packs, medical bags, clear or solid tote bags and diaper bags will be permitted into Citizens Bank Park.
- Broadcast: The games on May 17-18 will broadcast on NBCSP, and May 19 game will broadcast on NBC10 and MLBN (out-of-market only). All games will broadcast on 94 WIP and WTTM 1680, as well as available via live stream for authenticated subscribers on NBC Sports Philadelphia’s MyTeams app.
