CHICAGO – The Chicago White Sox have agreed to terms on a one-year, $3-million contract with free agent left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodón and designated right-handed pitcher Emilio Vargas for assignment.

Rodón, 28, made just four appearances (two starts) with the White Sox in 2020 due to left shoulder soreness, going 0-2 with an 8.22 ERA (7 ER/7.2 IP) and six strikeouts.

The 6-foot-3, 250-pound Rodón has gone 29-33 with a 4.14 ERA (247 ER/536.2 IP) and 525 strikeouts in 97 career appearances (92 starts) over six major-league seasons with the White Sox (2015-20). He originally was selected by the Sox in the first round (third overall) of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft.

Vargas, 24, was claimed by the White Sox off waivers from Arizona on November 20, 2020. He went 5-5 with a 3.84 ERA (41 ER/96.0 IP), 82 strikeouts and a .232 (83-358) opponents average over 20 starts between Class AA Jackson and the Arizona Rookie League Diamondbacks in 2019.

With the two moves, the White Sox 40-man roster remains at 40.
