Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that right-handed pitcher Shawn Kelley has been activated from the 10-day injured list. To make room for Kelley on the active roster, the club has optioned left-handed pitcher Brett Martin to Triple-A Nashville.

Kelley was on the injured list from May 6-20 and had minor neck surgery on Thursday. He has been throwing regularly while on the injured list, and last appeared in a game on May 4 versus Toronto, when he recorded his 2nd save of the season. Kelley has a 3-0 record with 2 saves and a 1.29 ERA (2 ER/14.0 IP) over 14 relief appearances for the Rangers this season, working 7.0 scoreless innings over his last 7 outings. Kelley has issued just one walk with 12 strikeouts in his first season with Texas after signing as a free agent on January 29.

Brett Martin posted a 7.20 ERA over 14 relief appearances with Texas after being recalled on April 19 for his first Major League action. He has spent the balance of year with Nashville, compiling a 1.13 ERA over 6 relief outings.

Following today’s transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the major league roster, along with four players on the 60-day injured list: RHP Luke Farrell, OF Scott Heineman, LHP Yohander Méndez, and RHP Edinson Vólquez.
