The Texas Rangers today announced the following transactions:

· Club option exercised on LHP Martin Perez for 2018 season

· Club options declined on RHP Tony Barnette and 1B/DH Mike Napoli for 2018 season, making both free agents

· RHP Austin Bibens-Dirkx and C A.J. Jimenez cleared waivers and assigned outright to Triple-A Round Rock

· INF Hanser Alberto and RHP Chi Chi Gonzalez reinstated from 60-day disabled list

Perez originally signed a four-year contract through 2017 with club options for 2018, 2019, and 2020 on November 7, 2013. He has spent his entire in the Rangers organization since signing as a non-drafted free agent on July 2, 2007. Perez went 13-12 with a 4.82 ERA over 32 games/starts for Texas in 2017, posting career highs in wins and strikeouts (115) while becoming the first Rangers pitcher to make 30-or-more starts in consecutive seasons since Matt Harrison (2010-11).

Barnette made his major league debut with Texas in 2016 and has gone 9-4 with a 3.75 ERA over 103 relief appearances in his big league career the past two seasons. In his third stint with the Rangers last season, Mike Napoli posted the third-highest home run total (29) of his career and made a team-high 90 starts at first base. As a result of the options being declined, Barnette and Napoli both become free agents.

Bibens-Dirkx saw his first career major league action last season with Texas, going 5-2 with a 4.67 ERA over 24 games/6 starts after spending 12 years in the minor leagues. Jimenez made his MLB debut with the Rangers as a September call-up, going 1-for-12 in 7 games/one start. Both Bibens-Dirkx and Jimenez can decline the outright assignments and elect free agency.

Alberto began the year on the 10-day disabled list with right shoulder tightness, and had surgery performed by Dr. Keith Meister on June 19 for a right rotator cuff debridement. He was moved to the 60-day disabled list on May 16 for the duration of the season. Gonzalez opened the year on the 60-day disabled list with a partial tear of the ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow and had 'Tommy John' ligament replacement surgery performed on the elbow by Dr. Meister in late July.

Following today's transactions, the Rangers now have 30 players on the club's major league roster.
