The Texas Rangers announced prior to Monday's game that the club has recalled outfielder Eliezer Álvarez (#47 - pronouned ah-LIE-zurr) from Double-A Frisco and placed infielder/outfielder Drew Robinson on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with left hip soreness.

Álvarez, 23, will be seeking his first major league action. He has spent the season with Frisco, batting .196 (21-107) with 2 home runs and 9 RBI in 28 games. Álvarez was acquired in a March 21 trade with the Philadelphia Phillies in exchange for cash considerations. He was originally signed by the Cardinals and traded to the Phillies on September 6, 2017. Álvarez combined to bat .248 (52-210) with 5 home runs and 28 RBI in 61 games with the Gulf Coast League Cardinals and Springfield (AA) in the St. Louis system in 2017, missing time with a left ankle sprain.

Robinson has batted .175 (14-80) with one home run and 5 RBI in 26 games/21 starts for the Rangers this season. He was in tonight's original starting lineup before being scratched with left hip soreness. The first date he would be eligible to return from the disabled list is May 15.

LINCECUM TO BEGIN REHAB ASSIGNMENT, CENTENO OUTRIGHTED: Right-handed pitcher Tim Lincecum, who has been on the disabled list all season due to a blister on his right middle finger, has been sent to Round Rock (AAA) on injury rehabilitation assignment. He is scheduled to pitch for the Express in tonight's home game against Iowa that has a 7:05 pm CT first pitch.

Catcher Juan Centeno, who was designated for assignment by Texas on Thursday, has cleared waivers and been assigned outright to Triple-A Round Rock. He will likely report to Round Rock on Wednesday.

RANGERS ACQUIRE RHP EMMANUEL CLASE FROM SAN DIEGO: The Rangers acquired right-handed pitcher Emmanuel Clase from the San Diego Padres today. Clase is the player to be named later in the April 6 trade that sent catcher Brett Nicholas to the Padres. The 20-year-old Clase has been assigned to the Rangers' extended spring training roster. He has averaged exactly 9.0 strikeouts per 9 innings (118 SO/118.0 IP) in his professional career, spent almost exclusively in the Dominican Summer League and Arizona League.
