Arlington, Texas — The Texas Rangers today announced that the club has recalled right-handed pitcher Phillips Valdez (#67) from Triple-A Nashville and optioned right-handed pitcher Pete Fairbanks to Nashville.

Valdez will be in his second stint with the Rangers this season, previously serving as the 26th man for a June 8 doubleheader against the Oakland Athletics, when his contract was selected from Nashville. His lone big league outing came in the day game on June 8 vs. Oakland (2.0 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 0 SO). He has spent the bulk of the campaign at Nashville, posting a 1-6 record and 5.40 ERA (36 ER/52.1 IP) over 13 games/11 starts for the Sounds with a 1.620 WHIP figure and 7.2 strikeouts per 9 innings. Over his last 4 games/2 starts in the Pacific Coast League, Valdez owns a 0.87 ERA (1 ER/10.1 IP).

Fairbanks had his contract selected from Nashville prior to the second game of the doubleheader on June 8 vs. Oakland. He went 0-2 with a 9.35 ERA (9 ER/8.2 IP) over 8 relief appearances with the Rangers in his first career Major League action.

Following these transactions, the Rangers remain at the 40-man limit on the club’s Major League roster, along with five players on the 60-day injured list: RHP Luke Farrell, LHP Taylor Hearn, OF Scott Heineman, LHP Yohander Méndez, and RHP Edinson Vólquez.
