Arlington, Texas - The Texas Rangers selected left-handed pitcher Cole Ragans with the 30th overall pick in the 2016 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.
The 6-foot-4, 190-pound left-hander was 9-2 with a 0.90 ERA and 104 strikeouts in 90.0 innings as a senior at North Florida Christian High School in Tallahassee, Florida. The 18-year-old southpaw limited opponents to a .122 batting average and tossed 5 shutouts. He threw a no hitter against Chiles High School. Ragans was named an Under Armour All-American and was the All-Big Bend Pitcher of the Year.
Baseball America rated the left-hander as the 12th-best high school pitcher in the draft and the 6th-best high school left-hander. He has committed to Florida State University.
Texas will also have the 63rd overall pick in the draft's second round, which will take place later tonight.
